About the PE and sport premium
Now in its twelfth year, the PE and sport premium helps schools provide equal access to high-quality PE, sport, and physical activity. The funding is intended to remove barriers so that all children, whatever their background or ability, can achieve and thrive.
Every child and young person should be supported to take part in daily physical activity. Current recommendations are at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity each day - or a minimum of 20 minutes a day for disabled children and young people.
It is important that schools make the most effective use of the PE and Sport Premium funding. To achieve this, spending should focus on improvements in five key areas:
-
Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
-
Engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
-
The profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement
-
Broader experience of a range of sports and physical activities offered to all pupils
-
Increased participation in competitive sport.

Sports Premium
This means that we will use the premium to:
- Add to the PE, physical activity and sport activities by introducing more variety of sports
- Build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years.
- Encourage the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity and raise the profile of PE and sport across the school
This year we are concentrating on the following: - Introducing new sports and other activities to encourage more pupils to take up sport and physical activities
- Supporting and involving the least active children by providing targeted activities
- Encouraging pupils to take on leadership or volunteer roles that support sport and physical activity within the school
- Raise attainment in primary school swimming to meet requirements of the national curriculum before the end of key stage 2
