Communication is at the heart of our relationships with others and our understanding of the world around us.  Learning a foreign language fosters our curiosity about other countries and provides a window into other cultures, increasing understanding and empathy.  It will enable our pupils to understand and share ideas with native speakers, and increase confidence and self-expression.  It can introduce them to new ways of thinking and give them a strong foundation for learning other languages in the future. The study of a new language also provides an insight into the workings of our own, enhancing communication in our mother tongue.
At Dale Hall, all key stage 2 pupils learn French, following the National Curriculum, which aims to ensure that pupils will be able to communicate in both speech and writing with confidence, fluency and spontaneity, and be able to discover and develop their appreciation of a range of texts, both written and visual.
